Alabama might not be at the forefront of skateboarding but that doesn’t mean they don’t offer some great skateparks to get your shred on. The surrounding states such as Georgia and Tennessee are well on there way to providing skateboarders with new and modern facilities so hopefully Alabama will follow suit.

There has certainly been a push for more skateparks to be built in Alabama as more residents take up the sport. But for now while we wait for new additions, you can ride these sweet home Alabama skateparks.

City Walk Skatepark

City Walk Skatepark in Birmingham, Alabama, measures in at an impressive 57,000 square feet. The location of this skatepark couldn’t be better. It was built under the I-59/20 bridge in downtown Birmingham, making it useable in various types of weather. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced skateboarder, BMX rider, scooter kid, roller skater, or just a watcher from the sidelines, you will love this amazing facility.

The street course has a large variety of street obstacles in an array of sizes. It includes handrails, stair sets, down ledges, flat ledges, out ledges, curved ledges, manual pads, A-frame with a ledge and rail, bump to rail, flat bar, volcano, bank ramps, and quarter pipes. If you like to skate street obstacles then you will love this street plaza. There is also plenty of room for practicing flat ground tricks and there is also some smaller obstacles for beginners to join in on the fun.

City Walk Skatepark features three different bowls for transition skateboarders to salivate over. The first is a pool-style bowl with varied depths, pool tile, and coping. The second is a large flow bowl with a center volcano, hips, extensions, and a flat bank. Last but not least is a small beginner bowl that is absolutely perfect learning transition tricks in. One of the great things about this skateparks is that is has been designed to serve every type of rider and all abilities.

If you want check out this new skatepark and rip it up on your skateboard, you must first complete a signed waiver form which can be found at skatecitywalk.com. For riders under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign the waiver form and provide a valid ID. This skatepark in completely FREE to use.

Lydia Gold Skatepark is 7,500 square feet and is located next to the 565 freeway in Huntsville. There are a variety of rails, down ledges, flat ledges, stairs, a quarter pipe, and bank ramps. The colorful bowl is by far the highlight of this skatepark.

Veterans Skatepark is operated by the city of Alabaster. There are lots of features to skate here including a three stair with down ledge, five stair with handrail, eight stair with handrail, flat ledges, manual pad, and a pool style bowl. A small daily fee of $1 on weekdays and $2 on weekends is required to gain entry as are helmets.

Palmore Skatepark is 10,800 square feet and was built by Grindline Skateparks in 2015. It features a mix of both street and transition. The street course has benches, down ledge, curved ledge, stairs, handrails, euro gap, banks, and a large quarter pipe. As for transition there is a mini bowl and a flow bowl.

Mobile Skatepark was designed and built by Spohn Ranch and is located in Public Safety Memorial Park. It features a variety of quarter pipes in different sizes, several bank ramps, mini ramp, two down ledges, two handrails, flat ledge, manual pad, and an A-frame with a ledge, rail, and gap.

Insanity Complex Skatepark

Insanity Complex Skatepark is 30,000 square feet and was designed by Site Design Group. It has a wide variety of terrain including a twelve foot half pipe with Skatelite, nine foot concrete bowl, three fun boxes, forty five above ground ramps, and a concrete street course with ledges, rails, and stairs. Pretty impressive huh?

Admission to the skatepark is $10 per day or you can purchase a six month ($200) or twelve month ($325) pass. See official hours here.

Auburn-Opelika Skatepark

Auburn-Opelika Skatepark was designed and built by Pivot Custom and American Ramp Company. It features a large bowl area with hips, extensions, noping, and steel coping. Surrounding the bowl is the street course which features a quarter pipe with an extension, manual pad, flat ledges, rail, half pyramid with an A-frame ledge, bank with an inset ledge, and slappy curbs. This skatepark is suitable for all types of riders and abilities.
