Are you considering purchasing an electric skateboard? Well, I just so happened to get my hands on Outdoor Master’s cruiser electric skateboard and have spent a few days getting to know it. Over the last few years, the electric skateboarding scene has really blown up. I’ve seen them whizzing by on paths and roads regularly but as a skateboarder who spends most of my time using skateparks, I wasn’t in a hurry to go out and buy one. That’s not to say I didn’t want one though.

When Outdoor Master contacted me and offered to send one of their electric skateboards, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Outdoor Master, they are an outdoor sports company who offer a variety of outdoor equipment such as electric skateboards, SUPs, snow goggles, and safety equipment such as helmets and pads. The company pride themselves on offering quality sporting equipment at mid-range prices.

The owners Leo and Ryan started the company because they believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy outdoor sports and that ridiculously huge price tags should be the last thing that pushes people away from the joy of the outdoors. Outdoor Master now produce cutting-edge technology products at reasonable prices to level the playing field.

On their website they actually have some great gear, for example, their line of snowboarding goggles are really cool, plus they have a good range of stand up paddleboards to choose from too.

One of the most recent additions to the company’s line up of awesome gear are their electric skateboards. They have two different styles of electric skateboards to choose from which you can take a peek at here, but this review will give you a run down on Outdoor Master’s cruiser electric skateboard.

Packaging & Delivery Of Outdoor Master’s Electric Skateboard Cruiser

Some people might not care so much about packaging, but to me it is a very important issue when ordering a new product, especially an expensive product.

When purchasing items that cost hundreds of dollars, you want piece of mind that the item will arrive at your doorstep complete, unbroken, and in perfect working condition.

Obviously accidents do happen from time to time during the shipping process but that is usually out of the sellers hands unless it has been poorly packaged, in which case they should be held fully responsible. However, this was certainly not the case when it came to receiving my electric skateboard from Outdoor Master.

Outdoor Master did a great job with the packaging and I received their electric skateboard safe and sound. The electric skateboard I ordered came in two boxes, the first was a standard brown shipping box, and the second was the product box.

Inside the product box, there was a layer of foam covering the skateboard that was wrapped in plastic. The skateboard was sitting snuggly between custom-made foam padding which cupped the trucks and wheels.

If you are considering ordering an electric skateboard online from Outdoor Master, you should know this company does a solid job when it comes to packaging, and your new product will arrive safely.

My First Impressions Of The Outdoor Master Electric Skateboard Straight Out Of The Box

When opening the box the first thing that stood out to me was the deck’s shape and design looked awesome. The grip tape did have an air bubble in it just below the front truck but as a skateboarder this did not bother me as it happens from time-to-time when gripping a new deck. It was an easy fix by just pushing the air bubble back down with my heal and it stuck straight back to the deck.

Pro Tip: If you ever have an air bubble in your deck that is being stubborn and won’t stick back down just take a utility knife and make a small incision in the middle of the bubble which will release the air and allow you to push and stick the grip tape back to the deck easily.

Another feature that I really liked at first glance was the fact that the batteries are inside the deck! This makes it look just like a regular longboard which is very cool and stealth. I did notice the outline of the battery through the grip tape on the top of the deck but I don’t think this will be to much of a concern with the performance of the board.

The wheels felt quite soft but this is definitely not unusual for cruiser or longboards as it helps with a smoother ride and also helps the wheels grip to the road better. The bearings in the front wheels spun surprisingly smooth and seem to be decent quality.

As for the trucks, the hanger seems solid however the baseplates seem to be made out of some kind of plastic or unknown material to me which concerns me a slightly but that doesn’t mean they are not of sound construction. The spring system on the trucks is definitely interesting as I have never seen a design like it before and I was eager to put them to the test.

The controller, T-tool, and charger came in a nice little box and all looked to be built from solid components. There was also a little booklet inside explaining the control features which was nice.

What It’s Like To Ride This Cruiser Electric Skateboard By Outdoor Master And An Overview Of The Deck’s Components

After charging both the skateboard and controller (the skateboard took three hours to charge and the controller took thirty minutes) it was time to take this electric skateboard for a spin!

Although not before giving the entire skateboard a quick check to make sure all the nuts, bolts, and screws were on nice and tight to make sure I wasn’t going to have any surprises going down the road. It’s always a good idea to check your skateboard before hopping on, whether it’s electric or not.

At the time of testing my new electric skateboard, I was (and still am) recovering from a broken distal clavicle from the last time I hopped on a skateboard so it was crucial that I didn’t have any more falls during recovery.

Turning on the electric skateboard is as easy as just pushing the button and then turning on the controller and waiting a second for them to pair. This is not the only way to turn the skateboard on though, you can actually place it on the ground and push off as if you were riding a regular skateboard and it will turn itself on. This feature is referred to as “push to start”.

The controller is lightweight and has an LCD screen which shows the battery life of both the control and the skateboard, and also displays speed, speed mode, braking gear, forward and reverse indicator, and a distance odometer.

I ran through all of the options on the controller to familiarize myself with it so that no unfortunate incidents would happen like accidently putting the skateboard in reverse and end up face planting. To my surprise, the controller was extremely user-friendly and I had no problems browsing through the different settings. Alright, it was time to jump on!

I jumped on the skateboard and away I went, at first just easing on the accelerator (speed 1 of 4) to get a feel for it. My focus was on learning how to control speed, and braking at low speed, which was very easy to get the hang of.

The acceleration was surprisingly smooth, however you do have to be careful not to accidently bump the accelerator, especially in higher speed modes because it is sensitive and you risk being thrown off the skateboard.

In terms of speed, this electric cruiser skateboard absolutely hauls, and to be perfectly honest, it was actually quite scary above 20 miles per hour. I recommend starting out on the lower speed levels like one or two, and becoming comfortable at those speeds before ramping up to levels three and four.

The braking is very sensitive and there is no room for error. Getting used to the brakes was difficult at first because you have to ease on the brakes very gently. When you are flying at high speeds this becomes extremely important.

After practicing slowing down a few times from speed settings of 3 and 4, I began to feel a lot more confident braking. There are different braking gears that can be set on the control.

Once I had the accelerating and braking dialed in, I tested out the trucks and their turning capabilities. I did not adjust the trucks at all, and for me they were set at the right tension for weaving and turning.

If you don’t have any experience with riding a skateboard and are not yet comfortable balancing on a board, you may want to tighten the trucks down as this will make the skateboard more stable. But be careful not to tighten the trucks too much though because you can damage the bushings doing this.

These trucks definitely performed very well however they did make a low squeaking sound. I couldn’t pin point exactly where the noise was coming from but if I had to guess I would say it was the suspension spring vibrating. This had absolutely no affect on the performance of the skateboard and turning ability though.

The wheels also performed very well providing a smooth ride and handling small rocks and cracks in the pavement with ease. I tried cruising on some rougher road to really put these wheels to the test and I was very pleased with how this skateboard handled the difficult terrain. In my opinion, these wheels certainly seem like they will last a long time.

As for the deck, it was a little stiffer than what I had expected but I’m guessing this is attributed to having the battery inside the skateboard. However, this isn’t an issue because the trucks have been designed with shock absorbing springs to smooth out the ride.

All in all, I think this electric cruiser skateboard from Outdoor Master rides really well! In fact, much better than what I had imagined.

Overall Performance Of This Electric Cruiser Skateboard And My Honest Evaluation

After putting this electric skateboard to the test on everything from smooth to bumpy roads, and taking it up hill and downhill, over several days, I have come to the conclusion that this cruiser is really impressive.

The design of the board is fantastic; it’s very thin, sleek, and looks really cool with the all-black wheels, trucks, and deck. And unless you flipped the deck upside down, you wouldn’t even know it’s an electric skateboard!

To be completely honest, I had no idea riding electric skateboards would be this fun, fast, and thrilling, so I’m glad I gave it a shot. I have thoroughly enjoyed riding this cruiser and may have found a new favorite hobby.

If you’re looking to get into the electric skateboarding world, I highly recommend this cruiser deck from Outdoor Master. Also, Christmas is coming up in a few months, and this would certainly make an awesome gift for family or friends that enjoy outdoor sports. Anyone on the receiving end of this electric skateboard is going to be stoked for sure.
