Skateboarding in Ohio is on an upward trend after a bit of a slump over the last few years. Moss Miller from Flip Side Skate Shop in Athens said kids stopped skating when the scooter craze took over but skateboarding has been recently making a comeback and the local skate scene is now growing again.
Ohio is slowly working on adding new and innovative skateparks throughout the state for their ever-growing skateboarding community because they have come to realize the benefits to youth. The popular Athens Skate Club started by skateboarder Leif Wakefield has a program designed to teach kids and adults how to skate to help the Ohio skate scene thrive.
A fun fact is that professional skateboarder and television personality Rob Dyrdek hails from the state of Ohio. He was born in the city of Kettering where he first started skateboarding at the age of eleven and where he helped contribute to his hometown with one of the most epic skateparks ever built. You’ll find his skatepark on this list along with nine other awesome skateparks in the state of Ohio.
