DIY skateparks are also prevalent here and Philadelphia is home to one of the world’s best and most famous DIY spots, FDR. This concrete paradise has been featured in several prestigious skateboarding magazines such as Thrasher. FDR is a world renowned skatepark that was built by the local skateboarding community in Philadelphia. This skatepark has been referred to as a ‘concrete paradise’ and featured in both Thrasher and Skateboarder magazine numerous times. It can be categorized into different sections that include the core park which lies under the overpass, the connecting pool area, mini ramp, and vert ramp. There is always new and different art work being added to the ramps and bridge pillars which give it an engaging visual experience.

If you are a Bam Margera fan, you’ve no doubt watched many clips of him skateboarding here earlier in his career. I know it’s a big call, but FDR is certainly up there as one of the best skateparks in the world!

Jordan Park Skatepark

Jordan Park Skatepark is 9,000 square feet and was built by Spohn Ranch in 2021. This modern design features a bowl with an extended pocket and pool coping at one end, along with steel coping and several hips. As for the street section it includes down ledges, handrails, stairs, manual pad, bank ramps, spine, quarter pipes, and more. The skatepark is set to see two more phases in the near future which is exciting news for local skaters.

Ambler Skatepark opened in 2011 and was built by 5th Pocket Skateparks. It’s a favorite spot for many Philadelphia skaters and offers some nice street obstacles such as a hubba, two out ledges, stairs, handrail, A-frame with rails and a gap, flat gap, granite slab, curved ledge, walls, banks, and quarter pipes.

Denver Community Skatepark is not the biggest in Pennsylvania but the local community are stoked to have such a cool little park to shred. There are quarter pipes, bank ramps, hips, ledges, a curb, spine, and a pyramid. The design allows for good flow and fast lines!

Lifland is a cool little skatepark located in Williamsport. The build was made possible by a very generous donation from local resident Mrs. Sally Butterfield. The design is mainly a snake run with various types of coping, hips, extensions, and banks. If you’re interested in skating a unique flow park, be sure to check this facility out. There is no cost to enjoy yourself here but a signed waiver is required. And just so you are aware, the waiver comes in the form of a sticker which must be placed on your helmet.

Haverford Township Skatepark is located in an old tennis court just outside of Philadelphia. Ephrata Borough Skatepark is 6,500 square feet and was designed and built by California based Spohn Ranch Skateparks. There is a mini ramp, quarter pipes, two hubba ledges, stair set, handrail, A-frame with a rail and ledge, manual pad, bank ramp, launch ramp, and a flat bar.
