Nipomo is a small town located in San Luis Obispo County, California. Likely you have blown through Nipomo while driving on Highway 101 without a reason to stop. But now with the completion of Nipomo Skatepark there certainly is!

The planning for Nipomo Skatepark started twenty-years ago but it wasn’t until seven years ago when local school teacher Tom Slater and students of his ‘skate club’ wanted to make their dream of having a skatepark in Nipomo a reality. Together Slater and his students along with other local skateboarders began the process of designing a skatepark.

After achieving their desired design (which is amazing) and concept for the skatepark the group started moving their proposal through the local government channels and begin securing funding for the project which took five-years. Eventually the Nipomo Skatepark was approved by the county with a final price of $3.5 million. This is money well spent and the brand new skateboarding facility officially opened on May 6, 2023.

Nipomo Skatepark

Nipomo Skatepark was built by New Line Skateparks and features 15,000 square feet of epic skateboarding terrain. No matter if you like to skate street obstacles or bowls there is something here for all types of skateboarders and skateboarding abilities.

The transition section section offers a pool-style bowl with tile for advanced skateboarders. There is also a multi-section flow bowl with some nice hips.

Different size quarter pipes and extensions are scattered all over the skatepark including a quarter pipe with a hallway. Having all these quarter pipes creates great flow and helps you generate lots of speed without having to push.

As for the street course skateboarders will find an array of obstacles that include two identical stair sets with hubba ledges and handrails, bump to rail, A-frame with a rail, manual pads, flat ledges, flat bar, and various bank ramps. All of this is situated on a silky smooth aesthetically pleasing stained concrete finish.

If you’re in the Nipomo area or just passing through mark my words this is a skatepark that is worth your while checking out. All types of riders and abilities are welcome to use this perfect new skatepark. There is also ample parking available, rest rooms, and drinking water fountains.
