The skateboarding community in Louisiana are go getters convincing government officials to legalize DIY skate spots by never giving up and never taking “no” for an answer. This is exactly what skateboarding is all about; bringing the community together and helping to create opportunities for others.
Besides DIY skateparks, there are also some facilities that have been designed and built by the industry’s best like Grindline and Spohn Ranch. Some of the skateparks in Louisiana have even caught the attention of celebrities like Ryan Sheckler and Drew Brees so the state must be doing something right.

Parasite DIY Skatepark
Parasite Skatepark started out as a DIY project by local New Orleans skateboarders back in 2008, but in 2013 the city bulldozed all of their hard work completely destroying the skatepark.
However, these local skateboarders never gave up and after countless trips to city hall and talking to as many city government employees as they could, the city finally decided to listen and work with the local skateboarding community. They were given the green light to go ahead and improve the skatepark legally and since then, Parasite Skatepark has received several donations and even support from the Sheckler Foundation, The Skatepark Project, Spohn Ranch, NFL player Drew Brees, and many others!
The skatepark has a variety of terrain that includes a bowl, half pipe, quarter pipes, vert quarters, flat bars, rails, hubba ledges, flat ledges, stairs, slappy curbs, manual pads, bank ramps, and more.
Some of the obstacles were actually donated to the facility from the barge used for the Red Bull Mississippi Grind which was an event series centered around a skate-able barge that floated down the Mississippi River from St. Paul in Minnesota to New Orleans, stopping at port cities along the way to host competitions and demos

Fireman’s Skatepark

Fireman’s Skatepark (which is also known as Houma Skatepark) is 15,000 square feet and was completed in 2015 by Spohn Ranch. It features a street course with hubba ledges, five-stair with handrail, euro gap, out rail, out ledge/manual pad, pump bump, flat bar, manual pad with a flat bar, transitional manual pad, ollie-on bank to bank, quarter pipes, and a bowl. There are also some mellow beginner-friendly obstacles to learn on too.
FIREMAN’S SKATEPARK
Hours: Tues to Fri, 2pm-7pm

Stoner Avenue Skate Plaza
Stoner Avenue Skate Plaza (not to be confused with Stoner Skate Plaza in Los Angeles) is 12,500 square feet and was originally designed and completed in 2006 by SPAR, local skateboarders, and with direct assistance from Rob Dyrdek.
The park underwent renovations in 2011 at the hands of California Skateparks and now offers a variety of street terrain such as hubba ledges, stair sets, handrails, benches, and flat ledges. This is purely a street skatepark with absolutely no transition.
STONER AVE SKATE PLAZA

Golden Meadow Skatepark
Golden Meadow Skatepark opened in 2017 and measures in at 6,000 square feet. The Spohn Ranch designed facility may be on the smaller side but it surely makes up for that with perfectly built obstacles.
With a hubba ledge, handrail, stair set, out ledge, manual pads, A-frame with a ledge, flat bar, euro gap, camel humps to quarter pipe, quarter pipe, bank ramps, and a volcano, it is sure to get any street skater stoked.
I guess bigger is not always better and Golden Meadow easily proves this point.
GOLDEN MEADOW SKATEPARK

Perkins Road Community Skatepark
Perkins Road Community Skatepark was designed by California Skateparks and measures in at a large 30,000 square feet. This is one sweet skatepark with a big backyard-style pool bowl with tile and pool coping, flow bowl, and large street course consisting of hubba ledges, flat ledges, handrails, manual pads, kicker ramps, A-frame with a gap and rail, bank ramps, quarter pipes, and vast areas of flat ground.
The skatepark is big and loaded with obstacles! If you’re in Baton Rouge it most certainly is worth checking out!!
PERKINS SKATEPARK
Hours: Sun to Thu, 6am – 10pm Fri to Sun, 6am – 12am

Sidney Torres Park Skatepark
Sidney Torres Park Skatepark was a combined effort between Hahn Enterprises and Grindline Skateparks. There is an eight-foot bowl with a shallow and deep end, as well as pool coping all the way around.
The street course features a hubba ledge, stair set, handrail, flat bar, flat ledge, down ledge that can be skated as bump to ledge from the opposite direction, A-frame with a gap, rail, and banks shooting off the side with a gap, quarter pipes, and a mini ramp.
This is one sick skatepark that is a must visit!
SIDNEY TORRES SKATEPARK

Wentwood (Kenner) Skatepark
Wentwood Skatepark (also known as Kenner Skatepark) is a street-style facility that sits under some unusual looking palm trees. If you enjoy skating street obstacles you will have fun here as there are bump to down ledges, flat ledges, bump to rail, out ledge, two-stair, bank-to-bank, flat banks, three-stair with two mellow down rails, and a bank-to-ledge.
Most of the obstacles at this skatepark are relatively small so it is a great spot for beginners to gain confidence while also being fun for advanced riders to dial in new tricks.
