Auckland surprisingly has a high concentration of skateparks that have been designed to please both street and transition skateboarders.

If you didn’t know already, there are two main types of features that skateboarders like to skate; street obstacles and transition obstacles. Street obstacles are made up of things like stairs, ledges, and rails. Transition obstacles include ramps and bowls. The city of Auckland is fortunate enough to have a mix of both street and transition elements at most of their skateparks which makes them appealing to all skateboarders.

Whether you are visiting Auckland and would like to know where the best skateparks are, or just in need of a change in scenery from your local skate spot, this list will hopefully help you find what you are looking for. Best Skateparks In Auckland


Valonia Skatepark

Valonia Skatepark was built by the Convic Skateparks team and boy did they do a great job here. At the top of the park is a fun-sized bowl with a corner extension, and after that it’s straight into the street section which has two-down rails and a hubba ledge, followed by a quarter pipe.

To the righthand side there is another quarter pipe, a transitional manual pad that can be skated bump-in or bump-out to the bank, a flat ledge, and also a ditch section with a jersey barrier that can be skated from the ditch side or the opposite side from the A-frame.

Other features include a pole jam, manual pad, flat bar, ledges, and quarter pipe with a keyhole and extension. This is an extremely well-designed skatepark that offers a little bit of everything for everyone.

VALONIA SKATEPARK

Victoria Park Skatepark

Best Skateparks In auckland

Victoria Park Skatepark is located in the Auckland CBD and is a mix of plaza-style street obstacles and transition. The main bowl is four-to-ten-feet with tile, pool coping, an extension, and a radial pocket. The smaller bowl is connected to the larger bowl via a spine, and also has a nice transfer gap.

Behind the bowls is a BMX-like flow section with quarter pipes and some insanely steep hubbas. Another transition feature is the five-foot mini ramp with extensions.

The street section is made up of hubba ledges, stair sets, eight-stair rail, flat bars, flat ledges, manual pads, gaps, and quarter pipes. This is a great spot for beginners to practice and extremely fun for experienced riders.

VICTORIA PARK SKATEPARK

Marlborough Skatepark

Marlborough is one very awesome transition skatepark with a variety of bowls and quarter pipes which have a mix of pool coping and steel coping, a spine, volcano, numerous hips, pump bumps, bank ramps, slappy curbs, and extensions. This skatepark is for those of you who like to go fast and fly high. A must skate if you’re are in Auckland!

MARLBOROUGH SKATEPARK

Waterview Skatepark

Waterview Skatepark is setup like a skate plaza offering an upper section that consists of banks, quarter pipes, volcano, manual pad, planter ledges, out ledge, bump over a rock, and a wide flat bar. The lower section has a down ledge, triangular shaped stair set, out ledge, pole jam, four-stair, flat bar, manual pad, two-bump-to-manual pads, pump section, and big quarter pipe.

There is also a pump track right next to the skatepark which is always a big hit with the kids. If you’re looking to skate somewhere a little different, this is the place.

WATERVIEW SKATEPARK

Owairaka Skatepark

Owairaka Skatepark is a unique plaza-style facility designed by Jason Parkes from Premium Skateparks. It offers a variety of street obstacles that include a brick stenciled bank with an inset ledge, cantilevered slabs, volcano, flat ledges, bank-to-bank, flat gap, flat bar,  manual pad, and a quarter pipe. The coolest obstacle here though is the bump-to-launch ramp.

This skatepark is clearly designed with street skateboarders in mind so if that’s your style you will for sure enjoy your session here.

OWAIRAKA SKATEPARK

Birkenhead Skatepark

Birkenhead Skatepark has a nice mix of street and transition. It was designed and built by Rich Landscapes and opened in 2017. The mini bowl has pool coping and steel coping as well as an extension all they way around one side.

Street elements make up the rest of the facility with a down ledge, down rail, flat bar, flat ledge, manual pads, bank-to-bank, pyramid, small euro gap, bank ramps, and quarter pipes. This is a smooth little skatepark that is perfect for all kinds of skaters to enjoy.

BIRKENHEAD SKATEPARK

Hooton Skatepark

Hooton Skatepark was designed and built by Premium Skateparks and consists of a peanut-shaped bowl with pool coping along with a smaller bowl with steel coping and a roll-in. The street course has various obstacles such as flat ledges, curved ledge, two-block, manual pads, down ledge, A-frame ledge, pump bump, and a concrete jersey barrier. It is a great spot for beginners and seasoned shredders.
