Melbourne is renowned throughout the world as Australia’s premier skateboarding destination and the skateboarding community here is very big. There are more than several high quality skateparks on offer in this city – much more than the rest of the country.

Some of Australia’s best and most famous skateboarders come from this skateboarding mecca and include names such as Jason Ellis, Tas Pappas, and Shane O’Neill just to name a few.

If you are thinking of taking a trip to Melbourne and want to try your hand at some of the city’s best skateparks, then you will want to read this list!

Best Skateparks In Melbourne

St Kilda Skatepark

St Kilda Skatepark opened in 2014 and was designed by Convic. It is mostly a transition-style facility that features a large five-to-seven foot flow bowl with an eight-foot extension, granite coping, volcano, hips, transfer gap, and a tight pocket. A second medium sized bowl has some nice hips, and the rest of the skatepark is made up of other quarter pipes, banks, and stairs. If you like to skate transition and want to skate somewhere with great flow, St Kilda is the place!

Box Hill Skatepark

Box Hill Skatepark was designed by Darren White from Baseplate. It features a variety of street and transitions elements to suit all types and levels of skaters. There is a peanut-shaped bowl with pool coping, flow bowl with a spine, and a snake-run.

The street obstacles include flat ledges inset into banks, handrails, flat bars, flat ledges, down ledges, A-ledges, manual pads, euro gap, pyramid, slappy curb, camel hump, quarter pipes, and various bank ramps.

Glenroy Skatepark

Glenroy Skatepark is located just north of Melbourne’s CBD and opened in 2018. This skatepark is another designed by Convic and is a great example of what a modern skateboarding facility should look like. Australian designers are definitely starting to take a page or two from the best skatepark designers in the United States.

Glenroy’s design consists of a peanut-shaped bowl with pool coping, a banked ditch-style section with bowled corners at each end, quarter pipes, flat bar, pole jam, euro gap, two hubba ledges, manual pad to ledge combo, and bank ramps.

There is also a pump track directly next to the skatepark which is a feature that is becoming more common now days.

Geelong Waterfront Skatepark

Gelong’s Waterfront Skatepark couldn’t have been built in a better location. The plaza-style skatepark has a unique design with numerous street inspired obstacles such as hubba ledges, up ledges, flat ledges, out ledges, rails, stair sets, and numerous bank ramps.

There is also an amphitheater around a central performance stage where events can be held as well as built in lights and speakers, and a basketball hoop thrown in for good measure. This is a super cool spot not only to skate but also to just hang out!

Maribyrnong Skatepark (Highpoint Plaza)

Maribyrnong Skatepark also known as Highpoint Plaza is the perfect spot for skateboarders who like to skate street terrain. The obstacles here include granite flat ledges and manual pads, fat-flat bars, kicker ramps, pyramids, pole jams, and bank ramps. This is one unique little skate plaza that can be enjoyed by both beginner and experienced skateboarders.

Noble Park Skatepark

Noble Park Skatepark is another Darren White from Baseplate designed facility that opened in 2015. It features and eleven-foot vert bowl with pool coping, snake-run with extensions and bowled end, and a mini bowl.

The street course has a multitude of obstacles such as hubba ledges, down rails, flat ledges, manual pad, A-frame with rail, quarter pipes, quarter pipes with extensions, jersey barrier, inset ledge on top of a bank, camel hump, and a euro gap. This is one of the best all-round street and transition skateparks in Melbourne.

Bentleigh East Skatepark (Bailey Reserve)

Bentleigh East Skatepark was built and designed in collaboration with Baseplate, Playce, and Concrete Skateparks. There is a fully stacked street course that consists of numerous flat ledges, mellow hubba ledges, rails, flat bar, manual pads, euro gap, bank ramps, quarter pipes, bumps, and hips. The transition section has two open ended bowls with a volcano, spine, and extensions. Concrete here is super smooth and perfect for skateboarders of all levels.

Prahran Skatepark

Prahran was built in 1987 and is one of the first skateparks ever built in Melbourne so there is a lot of history here! This is where the Pappas brothers would absolutely shred the vert ramp to pieces back in the nineties. It has a little of everything including a fourteen-foot vert ramp, regular half pipe, hubba ledges, out ledges, handrails, down rails, three block, manual pads, bank ramps, and bank to ledge.

There is currently a proposal to demolish the original skatepark to make way for a new modern one, however there has been push back from the local skateboarding community who want the skatepark to stay just the way it is.

Frankston Skatepark

Frankston Skatepark measures in at around 35,000 square feet and was built by Convic. There is a big twelve-foot kidney shaped bowl with granite coping, a five-foot bowl with two extensions and traditional metal coping.

The street course is really nice and consists of two gnarly hubba ledges, stairs, handrails, out ledges, curved ledges, manual pads, kicker ramp, flat bar, and bank ramps. This is definitely a favorite among local skateboarders!

Tarneit Skatepark (Baden Powell Reserve)

Tarneit Skatepark also known as Baden Powell opened in 2016. The design incorporates both street and transition elements together into what could be categorized as a flow park. The bowl is very unique and consists of deep and shallow areas, pool coping, metal coping, hips, pump bumps, transfer section, and a vert wall extension.

There are two big hubba ledges, a rail, and stair set that drop straight into the bowl, this is something you don’t see at a lot of skateparks. Other street obstacles include flat ledges, down ledges, manual pads, kicker ramps, gaps, stairs, rails, banks, and a quarter pipe.
