Vancouver is a bustling west coast city with a strong skate-scene and a healthy population of skateboarders. Several professionals such as Rick Mcrank, Ryan Decenzo, and Chris Haslam all hail from Vancouver.

Skaters from this neck of the woods don’t get the luxury of perfect year-round weather like those in California so they have to make the most of a short summer season. Luckily when the sun does shine in “Raincouver” there is an epic selection of skateparks on offer. Whether you are a transition skater looking for a big bowl, a street skater wanting the perfect plaza, or in search of a rad DIY skatepark, you are in luck because the city of Vancouver has it all.

Best Skateparks In Vancouver

Vancouver Downtown Skate Plaza

The Downtown Vancouver Skate Plaza was built in 2004 and was designed in collaboration with the local skateboarding community and New Line Skateparks. The 26,000 square foot facility is extremely popular and consists of hubba ledges, flat ledges, out ledges, manual pads, handrails, out rails, flat bars, stair sets, bank ramps, and a quarter pipe. This is definitely one of the busiest and best skateparks in Vancouver.

UBC Skatepark

UBC Skatepark is 8,500 square feet and opened in 2014. The New Line Skateparks design offers a fun mix of street and transition elements. There is an open ended bowl with hips and a vert extension, bank ramps, a unique three block ledge made to look like a stack of school books, two hubba ledges, handrail, two flat bars, flat ledges, pump bump, and a quarter pipe. This skatepark is great for both beginner and experienced skateboarders.

Kensington Skatepark

Kensington Skatepark was designed and built by New Line Skateparks. It features an amoeba-style bowl with a nine foot deep end, five foot shallow end, pool coping, and pool stairs. There is also a mini ramp, camel hump to bank gap, floating flat bank, flat bar with a grass gap, curved amphitheater style ledges, and manual pads.

Peter Sullivan Skatepark

Peter Sullivan Skatepark was formally known as “Ambleside” and was an extremely popular skatepark from the time it opened in the early 1990s until the early 2000s. After so many years of skateboarding abuse and weather, the skatepark was virtually falling to bits and became outdated, and not such a fun place to skate anymore. Thankfully skateboarders Peter Sullivan and Eric Savics along with the local community raised $102,000 to rebuild the facility. In 2016, the new skatepark opened and was named after Sullivan.

This skatepark’s layout is circular with the middle consisting of two flat ledges, manual pad, and a bump to manual pad. Surrounding this main feature there are various quarter pipes, bank ramps, hips, extensions, two flat bars, handrail, stair set, and a hubba ledge.

Hastings Skatepark

Hastings Skatepark was built in 2001 and is popular among transition skaters. There has been a plethora of skateboarding competitions held here over the years including the Vans Park Series. The large bowl has an eleven foot deep end, five foot shallow end, lots of hips, a spine, and a volcano. There is also a small street course but skaters mostly come here for the epic bowl.

Leeside Tunnel Skatepark

Leeside Tunnel Skatepark is a DIY project that was named in memory of a local skateboarder Lee Matasi who died in 2005. The tunnel measures seven meters high by forty nine meters long and features numerous quarter pipes, bank ramps, walls, volcanoes, and pump bumps. This skatepark is best left to experienced skateboarders and is not suitable for beginners.

Gleneagles Skatepark

Gleneagles Skatepark consists a a large flow bowl with several hips, extensions, spine, and pump bumps. The smaller bowl connects to the larger bowl via a spine and is perfect for intermediate skateboarders looking to learn transition tricks. If you’re are looking for a fun transition skatepark that is not to daunting this is it.

Queensborough Skatepark

Queensborough Skatepark is 12,500 square feet and was built by New Line Skateparks. Inspiration for the design came from industrial drainage ditches that skateboarders love to shred in the wild. The middle of the skatepark acts as a ditch with banks, quarter pipes, and bowl sections which offer skaters optimal speed and flow.

There are several other elements such as banked gaps, curved ledges, flat ledges, rails, jersey barrier, and there is also a giant piece of skate-able culvert pipe.

Guildford Skatepark

Guildford Skatepark is located at the Guildford Recreation Centre in Surry. Designed by New Line Skateparks it consists of numerous street obstacles such as flat ledges, long bank with three inset ledges, manual pad, flat bar, bank to bank, and a quarter pipe with a hip. This skatepark will appeal to skaters who like to skate street obstacles and flat ground.

Chuck Bailey Skatepark

Chuck Bailey Skatepark has an 18,000 square foot plaza and a 5,000 square foot bowl section. There are a variety of obstacles that include manual pads, camel hump bank to camel hump, volcano, pump bumps, bench ledges, out rail, flat bars, handrail, stairs, quarter pipes, skate-able pillar, flow section with a hubba ledges, and two bowls. The facility is partially covered which is great for those rainy days. Skateparks don’t get much cooler then this!
