Washington Reserve Skatepark

Washington Reserve Skatepark is 21,500 square feet and first opened in 2014. The project cost around $3 million and was worth every last penny. This is the real deal in terms of skateparks and consists of a large bowl with an over-vert capsule and extensions, a flow bowl with a radial corner, hips, spine, bump bumps, and banked extensions.

The street course is just as rad with big hubba ledges and handrails, stair sets, tons of flat ledges, out ledges, manual pads, banks, and plenty of flat ground. It’s a must skate if you’re in Christchurch for sure!

Halswell Skatepark

Halswell Skatepark which first opened in early 2019, was designed by Rich Landscapes and consists of both street and transition elements. The bowl is relatively small with steel coping and a nice corner extension, which is the perfect size for learning new tricks or for beginners who are trying to improve their skills.

Street skaters will enjoy the basic but well designed street course which has a down ledge that can be skated as bump to ledge from the other direction, down rail that can also be skated as a bump to rail from the opposite direction, pyramid, bank ramp, quarter pipe, and a roll-on mini ledge.

All in all, this is a great little skatepark with smooth concrete and fun features for all riders!

Knights Stream Skatepark

Knights Stream Skatepark is a 2018 build so it’s still in excellent condition. A flow bowl occupies one end of the facility and is around four to six-feet deep. The street course has a nice selection of obstacles that include two hubba ledges, handrail, stair set, taco quarter pipe, A-Frame with a rail and ledge, flat bars, manual pad, pole jam, and a quarter pipe. This is a great skatepark for both beginner and experienced skateboarders.

Prebbleton Skatepark

Prebbleton Skatepark’s design was built around the theme of the old Prebbleton railway station. It’s not a big skatepark but it has all the essential elements you need for a good shred session. There are bank ramps, out ledge, down ledge, three stair, euro gap, flat ledge, flat bar, and quarter pipes with an extension. This is a cool little skate spot and totally worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Lyttleton Skatepark

Lyttleton Skatepark is a small neighborhood facility with a really awesome mural on the back wall. There is a fun size bowl with steel coping and an extension on the backside. The street section consists of an A-frame with a rail and a ledge, flat bar, flat ledges, bank ramps, and a quarter pipe. This skatepark is perfect for beginners looking to hone in on their skills.

Thompson Skatepark

Thompson Skatepark is a popular facility for local Christchurch skateboarders. This skatepark is comprised of a big bowl with multiple hips, extension, and a corner pocket. There is also a small mini ramp that’s perfect for kids, two hubba ledges, flat bars, bumps, and lots of flat ground. Although the bowl is best for experienced riders, the rest of the skatepark is great for beginners and kids to enjoy.
