Deception Bay is a coastal suburb in the Moreton Bay Region of Queensland, Australia. This small town recently received a $1.5 million skatepark upgrade as part of Moreton Bay Council’s Skate Park Renewal Program. Acting Mayor Jodie Shipway said “Council skateparks across Moreton Bay are getting the gold medal treatment on our road to the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics here in South East Queensland”. This push for skatepark upgrades is due to a local BMX rider named Logan Martin who just so happens to be from the city of Logan won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. It seems as though local council members here in Moreton Bay now see the benefits to building world-class skateparks in their region. This is great news as local skateboarders now have an amazing skatepark in their backyard and two other area skateparks are planned to be upgraded in the near future.

Deception Bay Skatepark

The new Deception Bay Skatepark was designed and built by Victorian based skatepark construction company Convic. Convic have been a big player over the last decade when it comes to Australian skateparks. Their modern designs and concepts seem to draw inspiration from some of the best skatepark designers and builders in the United States.

Deception Bay Skatepark offers riders a mix of transition and street-style terrain which makes it suitable for a variety of skateboarders. There is a flow bowl with an extension, pool section, radial pocket, hips, and a volcano. A smaller bowl also connects to the main bowl and is perfect for beginners to learn the ropes.

The street course features an array of obstacles such as a bank gap to bank wedge, A-frame with a rail and ledge, bank to curb, bank with three inset ledges and manual pads, euro gap, flat bar, down rail, curved chunk of slappy curb, and various flat banks.

This skatepark was designed with all abilities in mind and is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. If you find yourself in Deception Bay or close by it is definitely worth checking out this awesome new skatepark.
