Indiana should be on your radar when it comes to skateparks because the state has been building them all over and each one has it’s own unique features. The best skateparks in Indiana are works of art whether they pay homage to an old railway switch yard, display landmark bridge architecture or the local landscape. All seem to be very uniquely designed.

The Hoosier State is lucky enough to have skatepark builder and designer Hunger Skateparks based in Bloomington. These guys are responsible for a lot of the incredible skateparks in Indiana and have already secured more builds set to go in 2021. Needless to say this list is going to get bigger. Switchyard Skatepark was designed in collaboration with REA Associates and Hunger Skateparks who also completed the build in 2019.

The skatepark has several elements that reference the once Railroad Switchyard that occupied the area. The ledges, manual pads, and planters resemble industrial box cars which is really cool.

There is a good variety of terrain including a bowl and snake run, quarter pipes, banks, and rails. We highly recommend tearing this one up if you are in the Bloomington area.

Major Taylor Skatepark is an ‘oldie but a goodie’, the 15,300 square foot facility was built back in the year 2000!

Although the concrete is a little rough this old park is totally shredable. We are so spoiled with perfect smooth skateparks these days we sometimes lose the grittiness that skateboarding is all about. But this skatepark has received some love from the guys at Hunger Skateparks with additions in 2014 and 2016 so it is not all original concrete.

Major Taylor has a cool design that includes plenty of transition in the form of quarter pipes, banks, bumps, islands, pyramids and more. There are also ledges, hubbas, rails, and other street obstacles on offer.

Grindline recently gave the skatepark a make-over by replacing some features and resealing the concrete so it’s basically just begging to be shredded. There is a bowl with an extension, clamshell, and a pump bump along with a small street course that consists of out ledges, down ledge, rails, euro gap and more.
